Here are some of the things people say about
Bev and Digital Elf
Studios
"I have the pleasure of serving on the Cascade ACM SIGGRAPH
board with Beverly Standish, in our capacities as chair (myself)
and secretary (Bev). I am fortunate to share professional
interests and association and have often been pleasantly
surprised and delighted by her professionalism, enthusiasm for
computer graphics and knack for working with people.
After she stepped up to hold the reins of SIGGRAPH's fledgling
membership, she demonstrated initiative and responsibility to
find an application that could be used for administrative
purposes, complete a feature-length live motion and originally
animated movie, establish working relationships with
well-respected CG luminaries. Her team leadership is evident in
her ability to both blend-in with rock stars of the insdustry
and encourage and mentor beginning learners.
I respect Bev's work, determination and positive energy. I would
recommend her CG skills for instructional design, medical
modeling and 3D illustration, musical scores that accompany
animation, corporate training, and the gamut of modeling and
animation production in movie, gaming and multimedia horizontal
markets. Her skills range over such a vast area of expertise
that her unique gift is her ability to move in many areas; to
understand multiple applications and communicate effectively
with team members of all types. She is a people-person with many
technical and training skills to bring to the table.
Feel free to contact me regarding my recommendation of Beverly
Standish, 503-367-1522."

"It gives me great pleasure to have been requested to write a
recommendation letter for a person who holds my esteem, respect,
and admiration. Bev Standish and I met while serving on the
Board of Directors for the Association of Computing Machinery’s
special interest group focused on computer graphics called,
“Cascade SIGGRAPH’. Ours is a shared passion for computer
graphic imagery, animation, videography, teaching, learning and
the creative process. Bev has an added level of expertise; she
is an accomplished concert pianist and composer (very
knowledgeable in classical and many things musical).
Over time I have become increasingly aware of Bev’s fine
character, amazing integrity, wit, charm and such a playful
sense of fun. She is in all senses of the word delightful.
Technically, her curious, musical, mathematical, problem solving
mind is always “on”. Ask Bev a question or ask for help to find
answers and she’s there, present and focused and she gets
results! Personally, I attribute this to the early years of
dedicated practicing and playing piano. At times, she can hardly
wait to get back to the keyboard to create. She knows and owns
more computers, software and musical instruments than anyone I
have ever encountered. Her passion is clearly manifested.
Any project would be greatly improved with Bev’s presence and
influence. She spent lots of time playing, really well with
others and is masterful in her talent and ability to discover
and bring out the best when working along people. An awesome
talent, I’ve witnessed time, and time again."

"Skills as a teacher: In the short amount of time I have known
Bev, I am very impressed
with her patience and skill as a
teacher of children. She has been working with my son teaching
him the piano. Because my son has ADHD, he has challenges with
paying attention and motivation.
Bev has instilled motivation
and creativity in my son and is much more confident with his
skills.
Bev's strength is in building creativity within the
student and guiding them in their search for
their style in
their craft. I have watched Bev in her animation techniques
also,
and she is a very skilled animator and craftsperson in
whatever she seems to take on.
I would highly recommend her as a
teacher in animation and music."

More Praise
"Bev Standish was my daughter's teacher, both in the
classroom and in private piano
lessons for four years. Throughout that time, she demonstrated
the patience, creativity, and maturity only the best teachers
have. Her classes were never about her,
they were always about
the kids and what was good for them. Using her longstanding interest in
computers, her knowledge of music, and her desire to develop the
fun, educational narratives she had started in school
productions, she began work on her film, The Escape of Middle C.
My daughter was lucky enough to be part of the early stages of
this production, and again Bev demonstrated the sort of
generous, patient creativity that has characterized all aspects
of her career. My daughter has learned a great deal by working
with her."

Praise from Students
"I took Ms. Standish's computer animation class for 2 years
and it was extremely fun. It gave me a better understanding
of what goes in to making movies. The art side of this class
was very important and it helped me understand the geometry
in all of the characters that we created. She really knows
what she's doing and she has fun doing it!"

"Bev Standish has been our music and computer animation
teacher for over 5 years. Throughout that time, Bev has both
educated and encouraged us along with challenging us
individually to show our
own creativity. Bev has been a supportive,
thoughtful and caring instructor and has always gone above
and beyond “normal” teaching methods to enable us to feel
and be successful. She even accompanied us to an 8th grade
talent show where we performed a guitar piece we composed
under her instruction. One of Bev’s greatest assets is her
willingness to allow her students to express to our
individuality while learning the fundamentals of music and
computer animation. Bev Standish is the kind of teacher we
will remember with fondness for the rest of our lives."
